Southwest Regional Spotlight

Each of the six new Deltapine® Class of 10 cotton varieties offers yield and fiber quality improvements over commercial standards. Each also contains Genuity™ Bollgard II® with Roundup Ready® Flex traits to help maximize performance on fields across the Southwest. Farmers in Texas saw an average of 40 to 50 pounds of lint per acre with the Class of 09 compared to commercial standards and the Class of 10 brought an additional average of 50 pounds. With these figures, farmers could harvest one or two more bales of cotton per bag of Deltapine® Class of 10 seed purchased.

In 2009, we introduced a new naming system for Deltapine cotton varieties. Each product now has four numbers in the name. The first two numbers signify the year of commercialization, and the second two numbers indicate maturity based on the following scale:

  • 10-20 = Early
  • 20-30 = Early-mid
  • 30-40 = Mid
  • 40-50 = Mid-full
  • 50-60 = Full

Understanding the Names of Deltapine Varieties
In 2009, Monsanto's Deltapine® business introduced a new naming system designed to help farmers better identify promising new cotton varieties for the Deltapine brand. The new naming approach for Deltapine varieties uses a four digit numbering system. The first two numbers indicate the year the variety was introduced, and the second two numbers showing relative maturity. The uppercase abbreviation at the end of the name will continue to represent the included Genuity™ trait technology.
